Pied-à-terre

New York City

A one room pied-à-terre in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The design brief called for an oasis from the city streets whenever the owner visits. Part of the answer called for a soft glow of hidden linear lighting to work with a pared down minimal palette of materials for this compact space. Nothing too frenetic.

There is a minimal kitchenette area, blended into a millwork cabinet wall, a small desk area, and an exposed wooden bathtub (Japanese ofuro). The oak millwork throughout and cove lighting tie all the elements together as one crafted space for many purposes.
