Pre-War Tranquility

Central Park West, New York City

Confronted with a fatigued, pre-war apartment on Central Park West, we gutted this 1,800 SF estate condition residence and completely reimagined the spaces into a peaceful, modern home.

All of the windows were changed from narrow weight and chain windows, with tired glazing, to ones with modern, sleeker frames, letting in a copious amount of light from three exposures. Central air conditioning and radiant heating in select rooms complemented the brighter ambience. Our design experience has always worked with our knowledge of construction and infrastructure.

Extensive layout changes combined antiquated rooms, and created new passages among the pre-war plumbing risers and columns. We created a larger kitchen and a home office with hidden access to an adjacent bathroom. The entry sequence changed from a dark hallway greeting you to one with a view to the city with streaming daylight from larger portals to the living and dining room.

Extensive millwork ties all of the rooms together with textured motifs.
