Scarsdale Solitude
Scarsdale, New York
The owner engaged us to create a primary bedroom suite with a large closet, and bathroom. A foundation built in the prior renovation and zoning setbacks limited the area of a second floor addition.
Thinking “out of the box”, we realized that the existing primary bedroom faced the wrong way towards the front of the house. The view out of the rear of the house offered the tranquility of an owner’s private oasis.
By relocating one of the other bedrooms so that the primary suite completely focuses on the rear views and southern daylight, the ideal layout emerged.
We created a light-filled bedroom with a large primary bathroom across from a larger dressing room. We detailed a mirror that sits flush with the wall, but when you open the first mirror leaf, it reveals another mirror leaf that folds out for a 3-way dressing mirror. Unexpected details we like to bring to a project.
