Elevated Calm

New York City

A gut renovation to a 1,700SF 3 bedroom residence, located high up in a Gothic inspired terra-cotta clad skyscraper. The trapezoidal plan shape and existing layout, with outdated finishes, left an impression of darkness that belied the sunlight from three exposures.

One now enters the apartment with a view through the office and out to the city view and daylight. A steel and glass pocket door creates privacy when needed. More detail seen here>

Bedrooms are now separate from the more "public" spaces. We increased the amount of storage and integrated a complete central air system while working within the Landmark Preservation Commission's criteria.

The new layout allows the daylight to flow into the new spaces and the proposed finishes create a sense of calm above the busy streets of New York City.
